Sheryl DeVore
Sheryl De Vore has been watching birds, plants, and other natural wonders for more than 25 years. With an education, science, and journalism background, she enjoys sharing her knowledge and inspiration from nature. Sheryl
serves as department editor of the American Birding Association's "Birding" magazine and is an assistant editor for "Chicago Wilderness" magazine.
She is also the current and founding Chief Editor of "Meadowlark, A Journal
of Illinois Birds," published by the Illinois Ornithological Society.
Sheryl happily works full-time as Senior Writer at the Chicago Botanic Garden, which promotes the important mission of conservation.
An author of three published books on nature and birding, Sheryl has received many awards including the Chicago Audubon Society's Environmental Writer of the Year, the Suburban Newspapers of America National Journalist of the Year, and the Illinois Press Association's
Best Lifestyles Section Editor.
Sheryl has taught journalism classes at Northwestern University, and has presented many nature,
bird, and writing classes and workshops for The Field Museum, The Nature Conservancy,
the Chicago Botanic Garden, and the Lake County Forest Preserves. Her
articles have appeared in publications of the National Audubon Society, the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center, Chicago Wilderness, and many others. |

Steven D. Bailey
Since he was a boy, Steve has loved watching birds, snakes, butterflies, anything outdoors in nature. Today Steve is a dedicated enivornmentalist and naturalist who works at the Illinois Natural History Survey in Champaign, Illinois.
Steve loves doing research, but he also
enjoys educating others. He leads many field trips for beginning to advanced
birders at no charge. One day he'll be doing an
owl program for families at a Champaign County Forest Preserve; the next he'll be leading top-notch birders through
corn stubble to find the elusive Smith's Longspur.
Steve is also a writer, editor, and prolific photographer.
A former
Vice-President
of the Illinois Ornithological Society,
Steve serves as an Associate
Editor for "Meadowlark: A Journal
of Illinois Birds."
He has written for
many publications
including "Birding" and "Illinios
Audubon," plus he is the
author of
a chapter in the recently published
book, "In The Field"
as well as co-author
of "Birds of
Illinois" with Sheryl DeVore, published by Lone Pine
Publishing.
